The Franklin Township Public School system provides a comprehensive
education program for more than 4900 full time (K-12) and 2000 part-time (adult and continuing education) students
in nine school buildings. Each year, students and staff are recognized for accomplishments such as Gifted and Talented
Chorus, Governor's Teacher Awards, state athletic championships, teen arts awards, and numerous scholarships to
colleges and universities.
The schools provide magnet programs to inspire learning, to nourish individual interest and to provide intradistrict
choice for parents.
Besides the standard curriculum, a number of special programs are offered, including bilingual education, basic
skills improvement, computer studies and a work study program. A fee-based child care program is offered both before
and after school.
The primary grades (K-3) are housed in four school buildings -- Elizabeth
Avenue, Kingston, MacAfee and Pine
Grove Manor; upper elementary grades (4 and 5) are offered in three schools -- Conerly
Road, Franklin Park and Hillcrest; intermediate grades (6-8)
are in the newly expanded and renovated Sampson G. Smith Intermediate School.
Senior high students meet at Franklin High School. Adult and continuing
education programs are offered at both Sampson G. Smith and Franklin
High School.
The Board of Education and Township government have undertaken a series of cooperative projects in recent years,
including the creation of the Bunker Hill Environmental Education Center,
construction of athletic facilities at Sampson G. Smith Intermediate School
and the pooling of vehicle maintenance services. Currently, the Board of Education is in the process of evaluating
options for expanding elementary schools to meet the growing enrollment of students.
To register a child in the school system, please contact the Board of Education offices on Amwell Road.
